The Franklin High School Rebels started the year with a tough 17-14 loss on the road to Brentwood High School, but rebounded nicely this week with a 24-7 road win against Riverdale this week.

Junior quarterback Joshua Nichols led the way for the Rebels, completing 15 of 20 passes for 252 yards and three touchdowns.

Franklin had control of the game by the end of the first quarter. The Rebels put up 21 points and held Riverdale to seven points.

Then the Franklin defense really went to work, shutting down the Riverdale offense and pitched a shutout the final three quarters.

Senior running back Matt Gaca led the rushing attack for Franklin, gaining 65 yards on 15 carries.

Junior Chancellor Bright caught two passes for 101 yards, including a 64-yard bomb good for a touchdown.

Senior Brock Holthous caught three passes for 81 yards and a touchdown.

The defense was led by senior Chapman Beaird, who had eight total tackles including five solo tackles and one tackle for a loss.

Sophomore Noah Clayton had six total tackles for Franklin, and senior Khani Kelton and Junior Guy Lipscomb each had five tackles. Lipscomb recorded three solo tackles.

In other high school football action, Battle Ground Academy put on an offensive fireworks show, beating Nashville Christian School 45-0.

BGA got the scoring started early, scoring just 46 seconds into the game. BGA’s QB Nick Semptimphelter threw his first touchdown pass of the night to Tiy Reed to put BGA up seven.

BGA increased their lead to 10 when Jack Saunder made a 32-yard field goal.

Antonio Stevens then rushed the football in from five yards out, increasing BGA’s lead to 17-0.

Semptimphelter threw his second touchdown pass of the day with just 25 seconds left in the first quarter, completing a 12-yard pass to Chico Bennett to put BGA up 24-0.

Semptimphelter threw his third touchdown pass of the day with just 13 seconds left in the first half, when he completed a three-yard pass to Garnett Hollis, as BGA took a 31-0 lead into halftime.

The second half was much like the first half, as Nashville Christian struggled to produce anything. BGA increased their lead to 38 when Reed took a Zach Clark punt 56 yards to the house.

BGA ended their scoring early in the 4th quarter on a 13-yard touchdown run by Briston Bennett.
